The Prince by Madness was the band's tribute to Prince Buster, a hero and champion of reggae music that gave Madness their name through his song ‘Madness’, a cover of which was also the B Side to this song.

The Prince was the first single Madness released and it reached number 16 in the UK charts. The song was released on August 10th, 1979.

With the likes of The Specials, Madness, Bad Manners and The Selecter all bursting onto the scene around the same time, the 2 Tone label and sound took the UK by storm. A lot of these bands still tour today and are well worth catching if you get the chance.
