“A girl with kaleidoscope eyes”
1967

Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds was a 1967 single by The Beatles, written by John Lennon.
The song courted controversy as many believed the first letters in the title nouns purposefully spelled out LSD, the imagery in the song seemed to back up that theory but it was always something that Lennon and McCartney denied.

The song is actually said to be about a classmate of Lennon’s son Julian that he did a drawing of. Ringo Starr backed this account as he was there on Julian’s return from nursery to hear him tell his dad that the picture was of “Lucy in the sky with diamonds.”

While the trippy lyrics were enough for some folk to think The Beatles were releasing a song about drugs they actually say this is more from Alice in Wonderland than anything else.

The song was covered by Elton John in 1974 but it is the Beatles version that people are more familiar with.
