Juicy – 1994 – The Notorious B.I.G.

If ever a song summed up a whole genre of music this was it. The Notorious B.I.G aka Christopher Wallace track tells his rags to riches story and samples the 1982 track “Juicy Fruit”.

Released at a time when rap music, and in particular Gangsta Rap, was making huge waves it is often mentioned as being one of the best rap songs ever written.

Sadly, those that know anything about Biggie know that he was shot and died just 3 years after Juicy was released. He died at age 24 in 1997 and the music world lost another incredible prospect.

It was only 6 months after the murder of Tupac that Biggie was shot and despite an East Coast/West Coast feud being blamed, there are a lot of conspiracy theories about the killings. Many books and documentaries have been made and it seems that if they really wanted to find the killers, or killer, behind the murder of raps two biggest stars, it wouldn’t have been that difficult.

Sadly Biggie is no longer with us but his music is and what better way for us to pay tribute than with this song.
