Martin Scorsese Involved In A Stand Alone Joker Film

a gritty and grounded hard-boiled crime film

There are a few things in this world I never thought I would see. I never thought I would ever see “The Simpsons” predict a US President. I never thought I would ever see a world where someone outside of Japan would make a half decent “Godzilla” film and I never thought I would see a stand alone Joker movie. Let that last fact sink in now consider this sentence. I never thought I would see a stand alone Joker film with Martin Scorsese attached to it!

That’s right! The man who brought you “Goodfellas,” “The Departed” and “Wolf of Wall Street” is attached as a producer to a stand alone Joker film. This might please or displease some people but Jared Leto is not involved according to Deadline’s Mike Fleming Jr this film “will launch the character with a different actor, possibly younger”.

“The intention is to make a gritty and grounded hard-boiled crime film set in early-80s Gotham City that isn’t meant to feel like a DC movie as much as one of Scorsese’s films from that era, like Taxi Driver, Raging Bull or The King Of Comedy.”

I’m interested. That’s a film I would like to see.

DC have said they are planning to make some stand alone films that will develop DC properties and while Leto is set to reprise his Joker status in the “Suicide Squad” sequel (things can only get better, surely) this film is tipped to be an origin story.

I’m excited and ever since I read Brian Azzarello’s “Joker” I have struggled to comprehend why they have never given the Clown Prince of Crime his own film.

Directed by The Hangover’s Todd Phillips, who will co-write the film with Scott Silver (8 Mile, The Fighter.) Pen has now been put to paper and the script is underway. There is no news of a preliminary date but we are all waiting with bated breathe to see what’s going to happen next.

Do you think we might see Dicaprio getting drafted in?

Probably not.
