Widely credited as the first Summer Blockbuster, Jaws not only got cinema goers spending at the box office, it also gave the majority of viewers a healthy fear of the ocean. Accompanying the movie was a score that is one of the most instantly recognisable pieces of music ever to grace cinema.
John Williams score was not only appreciated by the fans of the film that flocked to see it that summer but it was also recognised when it scooped the Academy Award for Best Original Dramatic Score, the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Score and the BAFTA Award for Best Film Music all in 1975 and the Grammy Award for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media in 1976.
Even now, more than 40 years later you will struggle to find a swimming pool in the world that a Dad is not doing the famous “Duh-dun, duh-dun, duh-dun…” in an attempt to scare their children.
